This page sets out who writes what you read here, how it is checked, and what to do if you find something wrong. It applies to every article on this site.
Who publishes this site
House Moving Companies is published by Onemove Limited, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 08717311 and incorporated in 2013. The registered office is 14-16 Powis Street, Woolwich, London, SE18 6LF.
Those details appear on every page of the site, and the company number can be checked against the Companies House register by anyone who wants to. We put them there because a site that will not say which legal entity stands behind it is not worth taking advice from.
Our interest in what you read here
We are a removals company. We carry out the moves we write about, in the UK and abroad, which means that when a guide on this site explains how to choose a firm, we are describing a market we compete in. That is the thing most likely to bias what we publish, so it belongs at the top of this page rather than buried at the bottom of it.
Our answer to it is narrow and checkable. Articles do not carry sales copy and do not end by asking for your business. Where a guide sets out what to check before booking, the company number, the insurance limit in writing, a price that survives contact with the van. It sets the same test for us as for anybody else. Apply it to us. If we fail one, we would rather hear about it than have you find out on the day.
What we will not do is write a guide whose real purpose is to make our own offer look like the only sensible one. If an article recommends getting three quotes, that means three, and two of them are not ours.
How articles are written and checked
Articles are written in plain British English and edited before they are published. Where we state a rule, a deadline or a figure that comes from somewhere else, a customs allowance, a trade body’s membership criteria, a tax proposal. We say where it came from, so you can check it rather than take our word for it.
We try to be specific about what we do not know. A guide that says costs vary is not worth reading. One that says which things move the price, and in which direction, is. Where the honest answer is that it depends, we say what it depends on.
Dates
Every article shows when it was first published and, where it has been revised, when it was last updated. The publication date is stamped once and never moved afterwards. Republishing an old article under today’s date to make it look current is a common trick, and we do not use it.
Moving rules change, customs allowances, visa requirements, property taxes. An article about them is accurate as at its last review date and no later than that. Check the date before relying on anything time-sensitive.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, tell us and we will fix it. Call us on 07713 199 263, or email us, the address is in the footer of every page, with the address of the page and what is wrong with it.
Substantive corrections, a wrong figure, a rule that has changed, advice that would cost someone money, are made to the article itself, and the updated date moves with them. We do not quietly delete a page that turned out to be wrong.
What this site is not
Nothing here is legal, tax, immigration or financial advice. Customs rules, residency requirements and property taxes differ by country and change at short notice, and the cost of getting one wrong falls on you rather than on us. Where a decision turns on any of them, speak to someone qualified in the country concerned.
